Hello!
My name is Chris Lee and I have a BA in Art History from CSULB. I recently completed my single subject teaching credential in arts education. I worked for many years as a freelance photographer, earned a CTE credential, and taught photography to high school students. I took a class in art history at Saddleback College, and fell in love with an arts discipline that renewed my passion for learning and education. I transferred to California State University Long Beach, where I served as the President of the Students of Art History club, graduating with a BA magna cum laude in 2020. I entered the single-subject teaching credential program, and recently finished in 2023. I love Indian food, meditation, The Hobbit, art history, RATM, classical, blues, '80's, world music, Trek Next-Gen and the works of Langston Hughes. I collect monographs by artists, photojournalists and art historians. I currently make art using a 5x7 pinhole camera, inspired by Ibn al-Haytham, who brought the science of light and optics to Europe in the 11th century. My resume and CV are located to the right. My Teaching Philosophy Photography, art history and painting are three mediums that guide my approach to arts education. Photography is something anyone can do with the push of a button, yet the art-form has an unlimited potential for creative expression and meaningful insight. Art History is a deeply transformative exploration of the human identity from past to present. Painting can be serious or silly, with colorful mud splashed on cardboard or applied to canvas with hairline strokes of a brush. With time, patience and encouragement, children of all backgrounds can learn how to capture a photograph, understand why we create, and paint a flower or portrait of someone they love. When we include visual, tactile and kinesthetic strategies in exploring art, we can spark new conversations with equity, equality, social justice and compassion. We need more than math to reach the stars. I believe that every person has the right to an unrestricted engagement with art, because art brings out the best of our humanity. |
